Nesting

I have been nesting .  Cleaning the house.  Doing the laundry. Sorting through books. Sorting through old clothes. Organizing folders and drawers. Writing the e-mails and proposals I thought I would do later, but have decided to do now.  Paying the bills. Checking things off the to-do lists.  Getting my home in order. Getting myself in order.  Readying myself to focus all my attention and energy on healing once I undergo necessary surgery in two days.  This process of readying has become a process of discovering a remarkable and soothing sense of clarity.  A sense that what is meant to happen is going to happen. And so—I need to let it happen.  My home is ready and I am ready.  And that feels as comforting and safe as a lovingly–crafted and softly-lined nest.

  11. I hope you are not in great pain after your surgery and recover in the best possible way. Here's a writerly cartoon chuckle, website unrelated:

I stopped by your blog for the first time a few days ago via a curiosity check on a Blogger profile that listed one blog: yours. Had no idea you were a respected children's book editor; I enjoyed your take on life and had the naughty idea to read your blog for me, a nice break from intense online writing/publishing research after 4 years of email-only. Life is funny. Now an intuitive idea is rolling around: the right editor is the one whose mind one likes for itself, apart from business thoughts or plans. Writers need good editors now more than ever. I'm grateful to have stumbled across you this way. Amidst all this research, am mulling over a game plan and will be in touch via your website. Take care!

  12. We did miss hearing you at the WPA-SCBWI conference, Emma. You were such an inspiration on your first visit a few years back. For now, we must content ourselves with the good words on your blog. Hope you're back to posting soon. Recovery is like writing. It takes the time it takes, and you can never predict how long that will be! Take the time you need.

  13. Dear Emma,
I see it has been a month since your surgery. May you have everything you need for a full and complete recovery. Comfort, love, peace, quiet, clarity, laughter, connection, delight, encouragement, good food.

When you are "all better" I want to run an idea past you. Lee B. Hopkins told me about you and the last time I wrote you, you were in transition.
    I am a peace-nik,
    Judy in Camarillo, CA
